Olympian ideal

Once again, we are pleased to report that Motor Sport and its weekly sister Motoring News are continuing as associate sponsors of the Evening Standard Motor Racing Show, the sport’s annual London showcase, which this year moves from Earls Court to Olympia 2, Kensington, to cope with further expansion.

All four floors will be utilised from February 24-27, and each will be dedicated to a separate theme. Displays will cover all aspects of the sport and its related industries, from Formula One to the grass roots via touring cars, historic machinery and most other things.

Several teams and manufacturers are expected to use the occasion to announce their 1994 plans, including one F1 operation, while familiar exhibits that have already been confirmed will include the Subaru Impreza upon which Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz are pinning their hopes of world rally success.

The show opens to the trade (and competition licence holders) on Thursday February 24. Public access commences on Friday the 25th, and concludes on Sunday the 27th. The show opens at 10.00 each morning, and closes at 18.00 (17.00 on the final day). Admission will be £6 for adults, £3 for children. Those who book tickets in advance, via organiser 3D Events on 081 744 1585, will receive free Fuji film worth £3.30.

There will be trade seminars on the first two days, with guest speakers discussing myriad topics: current technology, possible future developments (including electric cars) and the business of attracting, and keeping, sponsors, will all be on the agenda. Details are available, again from 3D, on 081 892 9252.

Christie’s will be staging its first auction of the year on the Friday evening, and the lots will be on display throughout. They include a Riley Nine Brooklands which placed fifth at Le Mans in 1932. Admission to the sale is by programme, available direct from Christie’s (who can be contacted either at the show or on 071 839 9060).

Motor Sport and Motoring News will of course be present, sharing a stand on the ground floor.

All visitors welcome.
