Mercedes Postscript
Last month we suggested that the Mercedes Sixty which won the 1903 Gordon Bennett race in Ireland, driven by Camile Jenatzy, was afterwards owned in the vintage years by Sir Stanley Cochrane, the Dublin mineral-water magnate. We have since discovered that one S H Cochrane, presumably the same person, won his class at both the Glenmacnass and Callow hillclimbs in Ireland in 1905 with a 60 hp Mercedes, and that Sir Stanley Cochrane seems to have been a Mercedes fancier, as he later owned a 1906 35/40 hp Mercedes with a Roi des Belges touring body.
