V-E-V odds & ends, February 1983
As this year represents the 50th Anniversary of the Railton car the Railton OC has planned a suitable commemoration. Is will hold a rally based on Cobham, where these cars were made, over the weekend of June 11th/12th, with a dinner on the Saturday and, it is hoped, the unveiling of a memorial-plaque to Reid Railton, to be erected on the wall of the Paddock Clubhouse at Brooklands on the Sunday morning, with Timothy Railton, Reid’s son, coming over from California to unveil it. [One hopes that perhaps the sons or grandsons of Mr. Thomson and Mr. Taylor, of T & T’s, might also be present? — Ed.] The Club would naturally like as many Railton-designed cars as possible to be present and hopes that the Napier-Railton from the Midland Motor Museum, the MG record-braker, a Brooklands model Nine, perhaps an Arab, and any ERAs that care to show up, will attend, even if the Railton-Mobil LSR car stays interned in the Birmingham Museum of Science and Technology. Those interested or who can help should contact the Club Secretary, Barrie McKenzie, at “Fairmiles”, Barnes Hall Road, Burncross, Sheffield, S30 4RF.
The Armstrong Siddeley OC continues to publish its magazine, Sphinx, which is now a glossy-paper publication containing much interesting history. The VSCC will be basing its 1984 Golden Jubilee Rally on Malvern, in Worcestershire. — W.B.
