Colours—and the Holden
Sir,
On looking through various back numbers of Motor Sport, I noticed recent correspondence concerning the ridiculous names given to various car colours by some manufacturers in an effort to create “new” colours. Amongst current gems here are Holden, The Lone O’Ranger, Salamanca, Lina Mint and even Brooklands Blue, and for Chrysler—Vitamin C.
I am also surprised to learn that Motor Sport has never been able to test or get hold of a Holden. These are regarded as the workhorse car and far outsell any other car in Australia. The range has many models from mundane “shopping” species to relatively quick and reasonably-handling “GT” species. The great point about Holdens is the fact that one can obtain spares at practically any point in the outback. This means a great deal when it is only too easy to break a windscreen on a dirt road from flying stones.
Many thanks for providing one of the last few remaining unbiased motoring magazines, which does not report in the more usual unqualified superlative manner.
