Transmission Losses
Sir,
Your correspondent in Sweden (“Power at the Wheels,” December issue) is somewhat late in reporting the facts. I quote from a copy I have of “The Book of the Motor Car,” by R. T. Sloss, published by Appleton in 1905. Chapter nine contains this charming and apparently accurate assertion: “Your 6 1/2-b.h.p. motor, owing to losses in transmission, can render only about 50 per cent, of its power available at the road tyres.”
