De Dion

Sir,

I was surprised that Mr. Erik Johnson, the Marketing Manager of Mercedes-Benz (England) Ltd., should state in his letter in the January issue that “Mercedes-Benz racing cars of 1938/9 followed Dr. Porsche’s earlier Auto-Unions in having de Dion rear suspension.”

Mercedes-Benz revived the de Dion r.s. in their 1937 W125 and continued using it in the 1938 W154 and the 1939 W163, Auto-Union however only used de Dion r.s. in their 1938 and 1939 D-type cars.

C. ALAN MALPASS.

Cross-in-Hand.
