Alfred Owen

Alfred Owen, the B.R.M. sponsor, is Chairman of Port Hamble Ltd., Hamble, Southampton, a firm which has introduced the Pacemaker 19 outboard cabin cruiser. It is claimed that after a year’s development and testing the Pacemaker 19 is ready to battle for export markets, through the subsidiary British Overseas Boat Co., Ltd. Where advantageous the boat will be shipped in kit form for local assembly.

The Pacemaker 19 is a 19-ft. cabin cruiser with two cabin berths, toilet, lockers and large cockpit, which weighs just over 700 lb. and will achieve 25 m.p.h. with a single 5-h.p. outboard motor and planing speeds if a 50-h.p. motor is used. Intended for family holidays on sea, lake or river, steering is by car-type wheel and there is electric starting. The Pacemaker will trail behind a small car and the cockpit can accommodate two air mattresses under a canopy, providing sleeping space for four. The price, exclusive of motor, £445.

Recently we were invited to Bristol to view the 5-h.p. light-weight outboard Kelston “Peto,” demonstrated on two new Caricraft dinghies. Costing £62, it competes with American models.
