"30/98" Vauxhall
Sir,
In the current issue of Motor Sport under the heading of “Club News,” I read with great interest the item that Mr NC Webb is engaged in rebuilding an E-type “30/98” Vauxhall.
I am the owner of one of these cars, engine No E305. It is of 1922 vintage and I had the good fortune to buy it from an old friend, who was it’s original owner.
I notice Mr Webb is proposing to fit his car of this type with a Delage front axle, for the purpose, I suppose, of providing it with front-wheel brakes.
Incidentally, my car has had front-wheel brakes fitted to the original axle, and they work remarkably well.
I had an “OE” model once, year 1923, but much prefer the E-type, with its smaller body and, in my opinion, better acceleration.
In these days of superficiality and false values, what a remarkable thing it is to reflect that, when I was a schoolboy, the owner of my Vauxhall used to take me for rides in it ; now, at an age of over 40 years, I take out my wife and family of three children in this same car, which provides us with extremely rapid and reliable transport.
I am, Yours, etc.,
LW Rawlings, Seven Kings.
