McLaren's caring culture

McLaren’s caring culture

Sir,

I read with interest your interview with Ron Dennis. My wife was his PA from 1987 to 2003 (he only needed one back then). Being an Fl fan I hoped to get the gossip but I may as well have been married to someone at Bletchley Park.

What was apparent was how much Ron cared for his employees. Any problem was addressed with Ron’s laser-like analysis. Medical issues were resolved with the help of Prof Sid Watkins, and although Ron never suffered fools gladly the degree of loyalty amongst those at McLaren was absolute.

He demands much from those who work for him and it was not unusual for my wife to be summoned in at odd hours to transcribe driver agreements and to get calls from circuits around the world to resolve issues.

We now farm and I well remember the call from Ron blaming me for taking away his PA, but he wished us luck as well. Ross Herbert, Linley Green, Herefordshire
