MOTOR RACING
THE PURSUIT OF VICTORY 1963-1972 by Steve Wyatt
How many images are lost in motor racing fans’ houses? Hundreds of thousands? Probably millions. Like the precursor to this book, Motor Racing: Reflections of a lost era this is another behind-the-scenes book on motor racing that goes some way to rectifying this situation.
It’s a collection of images, of cherished memories, and has been treated as such with chapters divided by years and the following pages resembling a racing fan’s scrapbook. The real charm of the work by Wyatt who used to take a bus, train, ferry, another bus and then a mile and half walk just to get to Brands Hatch are the images.
400 have never been seen before and they stretch from the 1963 Daily Express International Trophy at Silverstone to the 1972 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. While there are plenty of action shots it’s the off-track, in-the-pits images that really capture your attention. If our You Were There photo feature was made into a book then it would bok something like this. An interesting snapshot of 10 years of motor racing.
