LAKESIDE
LAKESIDE
THE EARLY YEARS by Richard Croston
This is an enthusiast’s account of the well-loved Lakeside circuit, just nodh of Brisbane. Conceived by local dairy farmer and racer Sid Sakzewski, it was built on his and by keen
locals and first opened its gates in 1961. Aussie touring car legend Dick Johnson even had his first race here, and writes the foreword. It’s still open today, and in its heyday it attracted international fields for rounds of the Tasman series. The book is split into chapters on drivers, but the text is very sparse in places and some racers only get picture captions. Predominately, though, this book is a picture special by local photographer Brier Thomas. The quality of the black and white images is more amateur than professional so this can many be recommended to people with a personal connection to this Queensland circuit.
