Aces star in Kenya Classic
Rallying legends Bjӧrn Waldegӓrd and Stig Blomqvist will top a field of 50 classic rally cars for the fifth East African Safari Classic when the nine-day marathon starts in Nairobi on November 19.
Waldegird and his son Mathias, winners in 2007, will field a Porsche 911, while Blomqvist and Ana Goni are in a Mk2 Escort, the first time since period that full-spec Escort Mk2s have competed in Africa. Local expert Ian Duncan, winner of the 2009 Safari Classic, heads the field away in his Ford Capri.
Competitors can expect a typically tough event after recent heavy rains hit the northern regions of Kenya, leaving many roads in poor condition with big rocks exposed in many sections.
