Albers in frame for Audi seat
Former Grand Prix driver Christijan Albers has been given a tryout for a full-time Audi sports car drive next season.
The Dutchman, who returned to the DTM this year after a three-year sojourn in Formula 1, finished second in a Champion Audi in the American Le Mans Series finale at Laguna Seca in October. Audi Sport boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich explained that Albers’ inclusion at Laguna was part of plans to rejuvenate his sports car squad.
Albers is in line for one of two vacant seats in Audi’s sports car line-up. Marque stalwarts Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela will not continue driving Audi prototypes in 2009.
