Historic cars to compete in winter ice trophy

Former grand prix racer Johnny Cecotto is one of 50 entrants due to contest the Historic Ice Trophy, to be held in January 2007 at Altenmarkt near Salzburg in Austria. Cecotto will drive a BMW 2002 in the unique ice-racing event, which is for all pre-1980 cars. Qualifying and heats begin on Friday January 19, before the finals on Saturday.

The 1.25-mile track, up to 32ft wide, is carved from ice and snow and the event has a mix of regularity competitors and ‘race’ participants. The complete 2007 entry list will shortly be published at www.historic-ice-trophy.at
