Hidden pleasure
Sir, I have been reading Motor Sport for 35 years. My initial reaction to the announcement of the changes was that of horror. I decided to ‘give it a couple of issues’ before passing a verdict. ssue two arrived yesterday — excellent, I have not been able to put it down. Yes, it’s different, but the quality is still there.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the cover. For a publication costing £4.30 it resembles a montage of pictures prepared by an adolescent. Motor Sport now seems to blend in with all the other publications on the shelf. Not, I fear, what was intended by the changes.
I suggest that with the growth in historic motorsport the market is crying out for a quality publication. You have the content but not the cover. If you think that the picture montage is a necessity, then go back to the old design and use the layout of your 80th anniversary issue. You should play on the fact you have been around since 1924 — it tells potential new readers that you know what you are talking about.
Be different, it’s the only way to win! Keep up the good work
