Fast Lady: My Life in Motorsport

by Joy Rainey ISBN184 425 038 5 Published by Haynes. e1799

A remarkable story, some of which may be familiar. Rainey has written about her recent car adventures for numerous national newspapers and magazines. Even so, they’re still worth revisiting as this woman of restricted growth has achieved so much. The daughter of multiple Australian F3 champ Murray, she’s more than proved herself in hillclimbing, in everything from an Alfa 6C special to a Pilbeam MP83, and in rallying with a Morris Minor.

Rainey’s enthusiasm for cars and motor racing is immediately evident from reading this hardback. Even so, this is more of a human interest story in which she talks about herself, and the early years wearing leg irons to straighten her limbs, in a matter-of-fact manner that belies the ordeal she surely endured.
