24-Hour defence
Sir,
The 2002 Le Mans Classic was for me, and I am sure for thousands of others, an enjoyable event. Those people who were allowed a lap round the track afterwards must indeed have been very satisfied with their visit. It was sad, therefore, to see the criticism by Nigel Hart in last month’s copy of Motor Sport.
I did not experience any difficulties with the officials. On the contrary, they were most helpful throughout the whole 24 hours. In respect of viewing, it is necessary to ensure spectator safety, and those who know of the Le Mans tragedy of 1955 would understand this.
To make a positive suggestion, I would hope for an increase in the washing facilities, notably in the car park areas. I am sure that all visitors would be pleased to pay for the use of them and that would assist in recovering the cost of the facilities, which should include a sufficient number of showers.
As the event in 2004 will undoubtedly be bigger and better, more pictures and a longer report next time, please.
I am, Yours etc,
Anthony Seaman, Southwick, West Sussex
