V-to-C Miscellany, December 1996, December 1996
It may not have been generally realised that at this year’s British GP at Silverstone the R-REC, at the request of Silverstone Circuits produced a fleet of 40/50hp Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts on which to take the F1 drivers on their parade lap prior to the race Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve were on the first car, a 1921 Barker tourer into which they dragged a smiling Murray Walker and a BBC cameraman, which followed AX 201 with the FIA flag Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine were on a 1923 Hooper cabriolet top down, and Oliver Pans and Pedro Diniz on a 1919 tourer etc.
The R-REC has just returned to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars the historic Rolls-Royce 100LG, the 100,000th R-R to be built in which the Club’s Chairman had covered 10,000 miles. But the Company has since lent this influential Club an exdemonstrator 1996 Silver Spur. As usual the great increase in Club membership has been maintained and issue No 218 of the Bulletin contained a full report of the Annual Rally with every class-winning car illustrated, and most interesting pieces on supercharging for cars as seen by Rolls-Royce in 1986. Royce’s views on WW1 aero-engines and useful technical data on Mk V. Silver Wraith and Silver Shadow cars. etc. The Secretary is: Peter Baines, The Hunt House.
