Britons to Safari

TWO British crews are planning a double entry in the 1983 Marlboro Safari Rally. Tony Fowkes and Peter O’Gorman will be driving a Subaru four-wheel-drive saloon, whilst Jonathan Ashman and Andy Millns will use an estate version of the same model. Fowkes’ car is being prepared in the UK, but Ashman’s has been built in Japan and will be shipped there to Mombasa.

Service support will be recruited largely from among friends in Kenya, for both have made previous visits to the Safari, Fowkes having driven there for the Mercedes team. Each driver has his own financial backing, but the operation will be integrated to reduce costs.
