Triumph or Lancia?

Triumph or Lancia?

I would like to comment on the two letters last month from Mr. K. S. Elvery and Mr. Richard Sleight. Although the two were on a different subject matter they had connecting threads. I sympathise with Mr. Elvery when he says that the TR8 is not available th this country or in Europe as I made a point of asking a Leyland Representative at the Motor Show if I could place an order. He told me that it will be on sale about March 1981. I visited the Leyland Stand on the Tuesday of the first week and I had a personal letter from the head of the Leyland Field Office on the Thursday thanking me for my enquiry and that they had passed it on to my local distributor. This was good service from Leyland but possibly the same does not apply locally as I have heard no more from this end.

I have nothing but praise for my Lancia Monte Carlo bought new in 1978 except for the braking in the net weather. The bodywork and appearance is like new and no rust. Also good, competent and courteous service. The new model is worth waiting for as it has been completely revised, but here again it will not be available until early spring 1981. I have decided to take whichever comes first the Lancia Mon te Carlo or the TR8. Of course, you cannot beat the classic Pininfarina body which looks right from any angle — more than can be said for the Triumph. The other night I had a dream in which I imagined I was driving the Monte Carlo but it had the V8 engine!! Poole, Dorset S. M. J. SAUNDERS
