The Skinner Special

The Skinner Special

Sir, There is a new (and apparently little

publicised motor museum. called “Automobilia”, a short distance from St. Austell, Cornwall. Amongst the exhibits is an SU (Skinners Union). about which very little seems to be known. The engine is clearly a 4,168 0.c. straight-eight Hudson, with four SU carburettors. The radiator shell seems to be Morris Oxford of about 1934,5 (when the car was buds). The wheels have a Morris look, and the beam front axle is drilled. The body is a sporting coupe, with a boot. Carl Skinner, I recall, put a 4-litre Hudson engine into a “(100” Morris Minor chassis, which was enormously successful at Shelsley M 19371. The coupe was presumably his road our — does anyone know any more about its history? Guildford JOHN WILLIS [Over to John Bolster perhaps? — Ed.]
