New Mercedes-Benz Coupés
Mercedes-Benz have increased the range of their 250 saloons. The normal Coupé will have two twin-choke carburetters and the o.h.c. 6-cylinder engine will produce 130 b.h.p. at 5,600 r.p.m.
Bosch direct fuel injection will be incorporated into a 250E model, and this will produce 150 b.h.p.
These models are not expected on the British market until early next year. They will adopt certain safety measures developed by Mercedes-Benz recently, and an interesting feature is a vacuum-operated stay designed to keep the front seats in position whilst the car doors are shut but they can be tilted forward for back-seat passengers to enter the car when necessary.
Wooden instrument panels have been replaced because the manufacturers are of the opinion that in an accident, splinters from these can cause additional injury to passengers.
