Brabham wants I.R.S. on British cars
Jack Brabham, writing in the Sunday Pictorial, agrees with Motor Sport that independent rear suspension is overdue on British cars. He is also very much in favour of the Volkswagen, writing, “Their doors fit so beautifully and the coachwork is so watertight the car can float indefinitely.” Of Fiats Brabham says: “They’re made to motor speedily and safely on their home ground—twisting mountain hairpins, loose gravel, inches deep dust. And they do it superbly.” He digs at British cars with the remark, “Our cars must be made equally as well if they are to compete successfully in the Common Market.” But for the Car of the London Show Brabham, who is a Rootes dealer, picks the Hillman Super Minx.
