Riverside, California 200-mile Sports-Car Race (October 16th)

With the United States Grand Prix approachIng, many of the drivers took the opportunity of driving in this Californian sports-car race in order to get in some pre-Grand Prix practice on the Riverside circuit. Moss and Gurney drove rear-engine Lotus-Monte Carlo cars, with 2.5-litre Climax engines, Bonnier a Porsche RSK, Brabham the Cunningham E-type Jaguar, Salvador a Cooper-Monaco and Phil Hill a Ferrari. After Moss had gone out with axle trouble and Gurney with engine trouble, local-boy Billy Krause in a Tipo 61 Maserati won comfortably from two extremely well-driven American “specials”.
