The Royal Wedding
All our readers will join with us in extending to H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth and H R H. the Duke of Edinburgh best wishes for their health and happiness. It is of particular interest to us that before his marriage Lieut. Mountbatten was a keen sports-car user. In an official story of the Royal engagement issued by the Court Reporter to the Press Association it is recorded that Lieut. Mountbatten used to drive the 100 miles from Corsham to London in well under three hours in his sports car (a TC M.G.) when invited to private dances which the Princess was attending. It is further placed on record that during a two hours’ drive round the Isle of Arran, when the Royal Family was being entertained by the Duke and Duchess of Montrose, Lieut. Mountbatten asked the King’s permission to drive one of the Royal cars (presumably a Daimler) himself, and handled it impeccably, with Princess Elizabeth by his side.
