PORSCHE AT LE MANS
PORSC E AT LVAS
by Glen Smote SIXTY YEARS OF PORSCHE PARTICIPATION IN THE WORLD’S GREATEST MOTOR RACE
Is there really any room on the already sagging shelf of Porsche motor racing books? This new volume hopes so…
The format is simple: a decade by decade, year by year description of Porsche entries at Le Mans, both works and privately entered, beginning with the trio of 356 SLs that joined the grid in 1951 and ending with the sextet of 911 derivatives in last year’s race. That’s a lot of ground to cover. So no surprise that this book is dominated by pictures, drawn from Porsche’s archive and LAT. But that’s not to say the book is short on facts. Far from it. The long captions and yearly summaries are dense with information, placing this book firmly on the reference end of that Porsche shelf. Combined with Haynes’s usual high production values, it’s an admirable achievement if a little hard to love. DS Haynes, ISBN 978 1 84425 995 3, £45
