Tony Dron celebrated the 40th anniversary of his first ever race by contesting the Gentleman Drivers’ event at Brands Hatch in May, finishing fourth in a Jaguar E-type with John Young. Dron first raced a Titan Mk4 Formula Ford car at Brands in May 1968.
Having been on display at Beaulieu for 20 years, John Bolster’s 1929 Bloody Mary hillclimb special has returned to the hills in recent weeks after a sympathetic rebuild at the hands of Bolster’s friends Dave Andrews and Sandy Skinner. It will now go back on display at the National Motor Museum.
Sir Stirling Moss headed a cavalcade of historic Jaguars in a long-nose D-type through the streets of Bradford in April to open Speedmaster’s lavish new showrooms, which is also Europe’s first motoring-themed conference centre.
Formula Junior racer Michael Hibberd gave his Brabham BT38 Formula 2 car its debut at Silverstone in May and should be joined by son Andrew in a second chassis later this season. Although finished in Rondel Racing livery, Hibberd’s car is not one of the BT38s run by the Ron Dennis team in period.
Two examples of Subaru’s original model, the 360cc microcar, are being put to the test in the 2000-mile Liège-Brescia-Liège rally from July 11-20 through some of Europe’s toughest terrain, including Italy’s Stelvio and Gavia Passes. The event has attracted over 75 entries and is the world’s only International rally for sub-500cc cars. Other entries include Fiat 500s, Citroën 2CVs, Messerschmitt, Heinkel and BMW Isetta bubble cars and Britain’s Bond and Berkley Minicars.
Sean Walker is hoping to enter a second March 782 for his old friend Ian Flux in Historic F2 Trophy races later this season. Walker has acquired a chassis and is having it rebuilt for Flux, who worked as an engineer on this type of car in period, to race in selected events.
