Aston Martin misses out on comeback win
Aston Martin’s quest for glory on its return to Le Mans was thwarted as gremlins hobbled the two DBR9s in the closing stages of this year’s 24-hour enduro. Car number 58, driven by Tomás Enge, Peter Kox and Pedro Lamy, took the fight to the Chevrolet Corvettes early on and was leading the GT1 class at dawn, only to suffer a fuel pick-up problem and a damaged splitter in the final 90 minutes, prompting its retirement. The sister DBR9 of David Brabham, Stéphane Sarrazin and Darren Turner suffered radiator damage, but made it to the finish in ninth overall and third in class behind the American muscle cars.
