The truth about Felice

Sir,

I was very moved to read in the June Motor Sport the fine letter by Martin Holmes, whom I have had the opportunity of meeting at rallies.

I was very surprised to discover that there are people who, like Martin, still remember the events of the 1953 Carrera Panamericana. They are, of course, unforgettable for me.

I have been to Silao twice to visit the death-place of my father, Felice Bonetto, in an effort to understand the dynamics (far too long to explain here) of his accident which took place on that fatal November 21.

I have had long talks about that tragic Carrera with Fangio, Bracco, Pasquarelli (Lancia’s team manager at the time) and Gianni Lancia himself (he lives in Brazil, France and Italy), who explained to me the whys and the wherefores of the crash.

Anyway, thank you Motor Sport and Martin Holmes for remembering.

I am, yours etc,
Roberto Bonetto, via e-mail
