Growing fields for retro rallies
In this issue we discuss historic racing on a budget, but many people are discovering low-cost historic rallying. Easy runs like the RAC Classic attract hundreds of runners, and even long-distance events have waiting lists. Philip Young’s 10th Anniversary Classic Marathon, leaving for Morocco in September, was full before the regs were even published, and his next bash, Around the World in 80 Days, starting in April 2000, has brought 26,000 enquiries, despite a cost of £47,000 (Tel: 01235 851291).As an economy option, you can spend a week touring Rajasthan, staying in the palaces of Maharajas. The Lotus Arts de Vivre rally in February 2000 offers real luxury at a hearty $18,000. Fax: 01793 849021. GC
