Swedish acronyms
Sir,
I read with great interest M.L. s story on 500 cc Formula 3 in the May issue and Doug Nye’s letter in the June issue about the Swedish Eflyth.
I am afraid that Doug Nye, for once, has got it wrong. The constructors of the Effyh 500 was Folke and Yngve Hakarisson in Malmo.
Since F-Y-H is pronounced as FY in Swedish it was not on for the very same reasons as M R D was not going too well with the French some 12 years later…
Instead the Hakansson brothers decided on EFFYH being a more ingenious name for their little car while still having their initials showing!
May I wish you continuing success with your excellent magazine which I have had the pleasure to read for the past 25 years.
