Vila Real 6 Hours, Portugal (July 6th)
In the race for Group 4 and Group 6 sports cars, on the 6.925-kilometre circuit of real road racing character, Piper and Craft won driving an ex-factory Porsche 908 owned by de Cadenet. For much of the race they were challenged by the Lola-Chevrolet of de Udy, partnered by Gardner, but slow pit stops and an extra one to change an out-of-balance wheel put the Lola firmly back into second place. Many British club drivers took part in the event, some making their European debut on this rugged circuit.
