The R.A.C. International Rally of Great Britain
When it was announced earlier in the year that the roads of Britain’s State Forests were to be made available to more motor clubs for use as special stages there was jubilation among those who regularly indulge in this splendid nocturnal sport. But when the news came that each club would first have to guarantee what amounts to an unlimited financial backing in order to compensate, if necessary, the Forestry Commission for road damage, the elation soon took a plunge. Several events have, in consequence, been cancelled and even the R.A.C. Rally, Britain’s part in the European Rally Championship, is in the shadow of financial difficulties. However, we gather that the R.A.C. has been making a diligent search for sponsors and although, at time of writing, confirmation that the event will in fact be held was not forthcoming from the R.A.C., we learn from informed sources that the kitty will soon be sufficient to run the event on its traditional November date.
