Miniatures News, August 1962

Lesney have been concentrating recently on contractor’s plant, earthmoving and other building construction machines in their “Matchbox” series and have sold the astonishing number of 20-million miniatures in this series. No wonder they have decided to continue them! For August comes a super detailed T.T.-scale model of an Aveling-Barford TS250 tractor shovel (no. 43, retail price 1/9d. inclusive of purchase tax). In their “King-Size Matchbox” series comes an Aveling-Barford diesel road roller in 0-scale, with divided roller, authentic transfers and a nonchalant driver (no. K-9, 3/3d. retail).

Returning to car miniatures, Corgi Toys have brought out a picturesque Ford Thunderbird Bermuda taxi with driver and detachable fringed sun-awning (no. 430) and a fine replica of the new Volvo P.1800 coupe (no. 228) and Dinky Toys, a very good two-tone model of the Ford Capri coupe (no. 143, 3/11d.). The next development in the miniatures line? I expect it will be not only openable bonnets and boots, which have already been introduced, but openable doors. – W. B.
