Another correspondent sends us a clipping from the Daily Express which draws attention to the fact that in 1959 we imported 9,500 Volkswagens and that last year the figure rose to 16,000. The Express points out that the price of a VW is £739 but if Britain joins the Common Market this will fall to £576, and it asks “How are British car workers going to stand up against that situation? ” Our correspondent, noting headlines which read “Strike Stops All Work at Ford’s,” “Strike Hits Car Men,” etc., offers a one-word solution – “Work.”
