A Silver City anniversary
All those motorists who make use of the efficient Channel Air Bridge operated by Silver City Airways and Air Charter will wish us to pay tribute to this excellent service on the occasion of Silver City’s Ten Year Anniversary. Silver City Bristol Super freighters, powered by two 2,000-h.p. Bristol Hercules air-cooled radial engines, cross the water at 165 m.p.h., flying at a height of 1,000 to 1,500 ft. They have carried racing cars, veterans, Her Majesty the Queen’s straight-eight Rolls-Royce and the cars of commoners, traffic having increased from 170 vehicles and 7,900 passengers in 1948 to 34,361 vehicles and 117,178 passengers last year.
Silver City own 22 aircraft, make as many as 170 Channel crossings daily at peak periods, and have never had an accident involving loss of passengers or cars. Fares were recently cut by as much as half, by the time these words are read Silver City will have flown 125,000 crossings carrying 215,000 cars. and 759,000 passengers, a splendid record by an all-British enterprise. Congratulations!
