THE SIX-HOUR RELAY RACE
The National Six-Hour Relay Race of the 750 M.C., for teams of up to six sports cars, takes place at Silverstone on August 29th, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. It is a handicap event with several novel features and incorporates a separate scratch contest for 750 (Austin Seven. base) Formula ears. The novel features include complete freedom as to the number of laps run by individual cars in the teams, resulting in the need for real strategy on the part of team managers, a publicaddress commentary which includes pit information and the leaders’ positions every 15 minutes, and, this year, a fascinating new 2i-mile circuit embracing much of the short Silveretone Club circuit, but also a hairpin bend at Maggott’s Corner and a long downhill straight to Club Hairpin and back to Woodeota Corner and the pits via Tower Bend.
Admission is by free tickets, with a car-park charge of 7s. 6d. (motor-cycles 2s. 6d.), which is a very reasonable introduction indeed to a national race of six hours’ duration. So reserve August 29th now and date up the girl friend ! This 750 M.C. relay race is a worthy successor to the old L.C.C. relay race which used to be deemed one of Brooklands’ better fixtures.
