Best time was made by Terry’s Frazer-Nash-B.M.W. in 8.31 sees., while Hutchison with his Ford was adjudged only 3/100th sec. behind, which raises the question of the advisability of timing by hand to 1/100th sec. Third was Miss Watson’s Frazer-NashB.M.W., taking 8.47 secs. The final time check came just before Nailsworth Ladder, the last hill, so that competitors could stop and watch their friends make the ascent. It says much for the standard of driving that only five cars failed on the 1 in 21 gradient. Hutchison spurned huge stones behind him as the Ford stormed up, and Terry
made a very neat climb. Miss Taylor’s M.G. was also fast, but Mrs. Moss had very bad luck with her Frazer-NashB.M.W., stopping when well past the difficulties owing to fuel shortage.
Inderwick’s Batten Special made no mistake this time, and Miss Shillitoe deserves credit for keeping her Alvis going despite violent wheelspin. Mrs. Wood, however, kept a little too far to the left with her Singer, and stopped for a moment, restarting unassisted. Miss Marshall’s old Anzani-G.N. was clapped for a good climb.
The event, enjoyable as all the W.A .S.A trials are, finished at the Bear Hotel, Rodboro ugh.
