The circuit of Montenero, near Livorno, was the scene on July 22nd of the Coppa Ciano race. Particular interest was aroused by the promise of an entry from Fagioli on one of the new Mercedes racing cars, but he did not start after all. However stiff opposition was likely to be given to the Ferrari Alfa-Romeo by Nuvolari’s Maserati, and this proved to be the case. The” high spot ” of the race proved to be a terrific duel between Varzi and Moll, the former gaining the issue by 9 seconds after 12 laps of the 20 kilometre circuit.
