1974 McLaren switch from Lotus pays off for Emerson Fittipaldi. But he only just beats 1974 German GP victor Clay Regazzoni by three points. McLaren 1 Ferrari 0
1976 When it really kicks off. James Hunt vs Niki Lauda, DSQs, protests, the British GP result turned on its head weeks later, Lauda’s fiery accident and return, Hunt’s rise and chaotic crowning at Fuji. No love lost between the teams… Ferrari well clear in constructors’ battle. McLaren 1 Ferrari 1
1982 A constructors’ title for Ferrari, but few care in the wake of the Villeneuve/Pironi tragedies. John Watson and Lauda win four between them, but are among 11 race winners. McLaren 1 Ferrari 2
1984 McLaren domination. Alain Prost and Lauda carve up 12 wins between them. Ferrari is well behind, best of the rest with a single win for Michele Alboreto. McLaren 2 Ferrari 2

1985 Alboreto carries the title fight to Prost into the summer, but McLaren and its ace are the class acts. McLaren 3 Ferrari 2
1988 Not even close. Prost and new team-mate Ayrton Senna win 15 of 16 races. A lone Ferrari win at Monza, in the wake of Enzo’s death. McLaren 4 Ferrari 2
1990 Prost vs Ayrton Senna, round three – but with Alain at Ferrari, reunited with John Barnard and his stunning 641. The angst leads them back to Suzuka, where Senna decides it with a dangerous professional foul. McLaren 5 Ferrari 2
1998 Mika Häkkinen soars in Adrian Newey’s first McLaren, winning eight times to six for Michael Schumacher in Rory Byrne’s first Ferrari. Start of a new war. McLaren 6 Ferrari 2
1999 Schumacher breaks his leg at Silverstone, leaving Eddie Irvine to fight the Ferrari cause. He gets closer than expected to pulling off a shock, but Häkkinen just does enough. Ferrari takes constructors’ title though. McLaren 6 Ferrari 3
2000 Schumacher breaks Ferrari’s 21-year drivers’ title drought, seeing off Häkkinen in a tense Suzuka duel. McLaren 6 Ferrari 4
2001 It’s all too easy for Schumacher this time, who is champion by August. But McLaren’s David Coulthard beats Ferrari’s Rubens Barrichello to runner-up. Häkkinen bows out of F1. McLaren 6 Ferrari 5
2007 Tensions hit new heights as ‘Spygate’ causes a storm. Räikkönen switches to Ferrari and wins three of the last four races to snatch the title from sensational rookie upstart Lewis Hamilton and squabbling team-mate Fernando Alonso McLaren 6 Ferrari 6
2008 Räikkönen fades, but Felipe Massa steps up – and comes a Timo Glock Toyota away from becoming world champion in Brazil. Hamilton passes Glock at the last to pip Massa by a single point. Ferrari’s constructors’ crown is little consolation. McLaren 6 Ferrari 7
2024 Red Bull fades as a reviving McLaren comes on strong. Ferrari starts well, droops, then rallies. But McLaren takes first teams’ title in 26 years at the final round. McLaren 7 Ferrari 7
