Heidfeld secures Le Mans return

Nick Heidfeld will return to the Le Mans 24 Hours after an absence of 12 years following his failure to land a Formula 1 drive.

The German, who was part of Mercedes’ ill-fated 1999 Le Mans assault, has signed a three-race FIA World Endurance Championship deal with the Anglo-Swiss Rebellion Racing squad. He will contest Le Mans and the Sebring and Spa WEC rounds in Rebellion’s lead Lola-Toyota alongside Neel Jani and Nicolas Prost.

Heidfeld said: “If you look at international series with races across different countries, LMP1 is most probably the most attractive category, especially with the world championship status and the future prospects of more manufacturers joining.”
