GT series launched
A new endurance race series for pre-1966 GTs and pre-1963 sports cars has been created by Flavien and Vanessa Marçais. It features three races in France in 2007, with an intended expansion into the UK in 2008.
Two dates have been confirmed for the ‘OGT and Sports Car Cup’, with a one-hour race at Pau on May 26/27 and a 90-minute race at Dijon on June 23/24. They aim to add a third race at Paul Ricard at the end of October.
“This is a brand new thing for us,” says Vanessa. “The organisers at Pau asked us to put a grid together. The response has been unbelievable. Cars and drivers have come to find us, and we’ll probably draw out more rare French cars.”
The races will feature similar cars to the Gentleman Drivers’ series; indeed the loss of the Gentleman Drivers race at Pau due to a clashing Masters fixture at Brands was the catalyst for the Pau race. “We’re not going against anyone and we hope it won’t clash in any way. Our series will be ‘back to basics’ for genuine cars.”
