The Earl Of March (above) established the inaugural lap record for Peugeot 306 saloon cars at Silverstone’s new National circuit on March 1. Charles March, who races a Lola Mk1 in Historic sports car events, is following in the wheeltracks of his grandfather Freddie, who ran hillclimbs in the grounds of Goodwood House in the ’30s, and won the 500-mile race at Brooklands in 1930 (see feature, p78).

The 500 owners association’s annual Speed Hillclimb takes place in the glorious setting of Wiscombe Park, near Honiton in Devon, on Saturday, May 10. The season’s largest turnout of Historic 500cc F3 cars is promised. Watch for local ace Harry Foster’s progress in his Joe Potts Special and Pete Wright’s Cooper-JAP MkVIII among the pacesetters.
