Coys all-in-one

oys of Kensington has announced a three-year sponsorship deal for the ever-expanding Historic Festival at Silverstone, now one of Europe’s most important old-car gatherings. New this year are a pre-68 Le Mans race (including driver change) and the Innes Ireland Trophy, a round of the new pre-66 GP/Tasman series, as well as a double-50 mile front-engined GP event, a pre-66 CT field of Astons, Jaguars and GTO Ferraris, and the fiercely

contested ’50s sportscars. A contingent from Germany’s Kompressor Club should mix the magnificent Mercedes SSK with the Bentleys and Invictas. All these events run on both days, though the FIA Historic Touring Cars race, always exciting to watch, is Sunday only. There’s also a concours, a classic run, a fly-in by some 15 prime WWII aircraft, courtesy of the owner/flyers known as The Squadron, the Owen Brown motoring art show, plus expanded catering and entertainment facilities. A new “one-price” ticket covers entry, grandstand and paddock access for both days at £20. Only entry to the Coys auction on Saturday evening is not included, but visitors will be able to admire, amongst others, the BAT Alfas which Bertone built in the ’50s, over here for the first time. Their Japanese owner is looking for around £31/2m for the outrageous aero dynamic prototypes. G C
