Affordable gem
Sir,
In his excellent review of the Lancia Thema 3.28, MLC comments on its Ferrari 328 engine and invites us to name another production engine which “runs into the orange band on the tachometer at 7000 rpm, and will whirl happily to the start of the red sector at 7500 rpm”.
May I respond, and at the risk of lese-majeste, name a much more affordable gem in the form of the 16-valve 1600cc twin-cam Toyota 4AGE as fitted to my GT Coupe and, with obvious modification, to the GT hatchback and the MR2. This unit runs into the yellow at 7300 rpm and whirls happily into the red at 7600rpm.
