Topical jolly fun

Our Cricket Correspondent writes: The time seems to have come when mere professional players no longer hold the attention of those who watch the age-old game at the hallowed grounds of Lords and the Oval. When future struggles for the Ashes take place we must expect to see in the teams such names as Graham Hill (Captain?), Cassius Clay, Benny Hill, Jimmy Savile, Anne Edwards and Jimmy Greaves. Colin Cowdrey has already gone over to motor racing. Whether the MCC will go ahead with the suggestion that bands aerobatics and jazz should liven up the old and dignified sport is not at present known. I do feel, however, that those who live by cricket and who are treading the revered paths of Grace and Hobbs should take care that the racing drivers and show bizz characters do not play such a good game that they are offered permanent places in the Test teams!—”Batty”.
