Triumph 2000 steering

Sir,
I was most interested to see the letter from your reader Mr. Richard Walker regarding steering troubles with a Triumph 2000. I too fitted a wood-rim steering wheel and also Cinturato tyres, and I too had this judder at about 55-60 m.p.h. The wheels were balanced three or four times with no effect at all. A shim out of the rack damper helped matters but left the steering very sticky and was replaced. Finally C41s were put back and the Cinturatos put on our Bedford van! The judder was improved but not lost, the mileage being 18,000. As a last resort the car was swapped for a new 2000 last October. The wood-rim wheel was put on this one and is quite satisfactory so far (4,000 miles).

I wonder why the wipers are set for left-hand drive on domestic cars and the opposite way on export models ?

Notwithstanding the various troubles over the past two and a half years. I still find it the nicest car I have had since the M.G. ZB Magnette was withdrawn.
