DAF generasity

Sir,
I have just received a cheque for £15-odd from my DAF dealer, as refund for part cost of repairs to my first DAF, which developed a squeaking clutch, and later the cooling fan came adrift.

This repair was completed with 23,000 miles on the clock, and 15 months’ running behind it, and I made the request for reimbursement under guarantee somewhat with my tongue in my cheek. I wonder what other manufacturers would treat their customers so generously ?

It may surprise you that such a high proportion of DAF owners read Motor Sport. It may also surprise you that this still enthusiastic motorist has, for the first time in 40 years’ motoring, bought the same car twice—and it was a DAF. If you want to know why—come with me for a test drive, across any built-up area. Of course, I don’t claim that my DAF is faster than the Cooper S or Lotus 7s, but it does seem to get there just as quickly, and with a lot less fuss and commotion.
