Try Your Skill!
On the afternoon of Saturday, April 10th, the East Sussex Road Safety Council, with the encouragement and assistance of the County Police and motor traders in the county, are holding a short proficiency trial for private car drivers resident in the administrative county. The trial will be on lines somewhat similar to a reliability trial but, apart from a mechanical examination of the vehicle, before the start, accent will be entirely on the proficiency of the driver, and the trial course will be invigilated at various points and marks deducted for errors in driving and breaches of the highway code.
There will be three starting points, viz., East Grinstead, Bexhill and Seaford, and cars will converge on the County Town of Lewes, where, at Constabulary headquarters, there will be braking and parking tests, followed by prize-giving and tea.
It is hoped that the afternoon’s programme may encourage the proficiency motif among the Sussex driving fraternity and will perhaps lead to the set-up of yet more motoring clubs whose aim and purpose it is to encourage proficiency. Details from: Road Safety Headquarters, Malling House, Lewes.
