The First Car Meeting at Brands Hatch
The first racing-car event to be held at the new one-mile Brands Hatch circuit described in Motor Sport last month will commence at 12.30 p.m. on April 16th. The 500 Club is holding a closed meeting for Formula III cars. There will be two races each run in two 10-mile heats and a 20-mile final, the first for amateur-built, the other for professionally-built “500s.” There will also be an open challenge race run in seven-mile heats and a 10-lap final. These finals will be confined to ten cars each, but racing will conclude with a championship race over 30 miles for the ten fastest cars as timed in earlier races. The prizes are £5, £3 and £2, respectively, for placings in the heats, and £10, £20 and £30, respectively, for wins in the finals, the total prize money amounting to over £280. Entries have closed. Practising will take place on April 15th, starting at 9 a.m. Brands Hatch is near Fawkham, Kent, about 20 miles from London.
